Summary of Personal Activities: Prof Gelenbe holds the EEE Department's Dennis Gabor Chair. Known for his contributions to the field of computer system and network performance evaluation, his EPSRC project "Self-Aware Networks and Quality of Service" and EU project CASCADAS in 2004-2008 were instrumental in establishing the field of Autonomic Communications and Self-Aware Networks (SAN) http://san.ee.ic.ac.uk.
His currently investigates the fundamentals of the Digital Economy through integrated models that integrate networked economics, distributed decision making, network security and energy savings in ICT. New areas that he is investigating include massive data analysis from gene regulatory networks, protein alignment and protein folding.
His research group includes Research Assistants and PhD students working on the externally funded projects (1) SATURN on Network Security (Technology Strategy Board and BT), (2) Fit4Green on Energy Savings in ICT (EU FP7),
(3) EU FP7 NEMESYS on mobile network security and (4) a UK MOD project on saving energy.
Completed large projects include ALADDIN on Distributed Data and Information Systems (EPSRC and BAE Systems), DIESIS on Simulation of Critical Infrastructures (EU FP7), and the Defense Technology Centre on Data and Information Fusion.
