Why a Man over Board system?
Since the beginning of the exploration and the economic exploitation of the oceans the risk of falling of a boat has existed. As a result of huge catastrophes such as the sinking of the Titanic lifeboats and other highly developed search and rescue devices are of prime importance on large ships and vessels. For this reason people travelling or working on large and medium size vessels are unlikely to end up in a “Man over Board” situation.
This however, is very different for small fishing boats and private ships. One these small vessels it is still very likely that a person might fall overboard. The biggest trouble with a “Man over Board” situation is that it might not be immediately detected, in which case the vessel might travel a considerable distance from the place of incidence. As a result it can be very hard to locate the troubled person.
What is a Man Overboard system?
A Man over Board system triggers an alarm when a person falls overboard to notify the crew members of the accident. Additionally such a system can be used in order to help locate and rescue said person in a minimal time frame.
What makes our system unique?
There are some Man Overboard systems currently available that will send an alarm once a person has a certain distance to the central point located on the boat. The usual procedure for such a system is to then log the current position for tracking and honing in on the missing person.
Our system however sends an alarm the instance a person falls in the water. The system then emits ultra-high frequency signals so their location can be determined by ships antenna. The system shows the actual direction in which the person is to be found. Most importantly this new system will be much more affordable than the existing systems. It is compatible with most self-inflating lifejackets and can therefore be easily incorporated into the routine and will not be an inconvenience every time you want to make a voyage.
