Quick link to form: Project Proposal Entry
and Edit Form
(use instructions see below - please follow these carefully and ask me if not
sure!)
We require undergraduate project proposals for 165 MEng students, and 22 BEng students, by Friday 6th October 2023. That is typically 4 proposals from every full-time teaching academic.
For those new to EEE undergraduate project supervision please read the project guide for context, and note the project web pages with all information. Contact me t.clarke@ic.ac.uk if you have questions.
Research staff are very welcome to supervise students (normally one or at most two) but please get the agreement of an experienced supervisor in your field who will check your proposals and take overall responsibility (with you) for the supervision process. We have training for you as assistant or main supervisor. You may enter your own proposals, and be named as main supervisor this year, if you have previously been active supervising Meng students and involved in assessment, and you do the relevant training. Otherwise, with training, you can be assisstant supervisor. Please see staff in your group or me for details.
Instructions on how to use the Project Proposal Entry and Edit Form
On entering the database you see a list of your old projects titles, and an option new entry to create a new proposal for this year. Select an entry (normally the top one new entry)and click submit to get a new blank form. If you wish to rerun an old proposal (possibly with modifications) select the entry for the old project and click submit to enter the project edit form.
Remember to set the stream to 4th Year all if your project is only suitable for MEng (4th year) students - otherwise by default it will be available for BEng as well if unchosen by MEng. BEng projects are allocated in the Spring Term so you will have time to correct them after all MEng students are allocated.
Description and title are seen by students on lists of projects. Put information about project suitability for students into the description to help guide students.
Comments are seen only by me, and should relate to matters not relevant to students, or of a sensitive nature.
Click Add when finished to add a new proposal, or rerun to copy an old proposal (with possible changes) for running this year.
Repeat as necessary. Projects entered for this year can be edited any number of times by re-entering the form and selecting the project.
MSc proposals can be viewed but not directly turned into UG proposals, you can however cut and paste, using two copies of the form.
Project titles submitted can be edited by you at any time: titles can even be changed after the project commences. Often titles need changes near the end of a project, you can do this with the same form.
You may enter more than 4 project proposals to give students greater choice. Without special agreement at most four of your proposals will be allocated. If you expect to supervise fewer than 4 projects, but have entered more proposals than you wish to supervise, please let me know by e-mail so that I can restrict the number which are allocated.
