When cars are left under the sun, especially during summer, the temperature inside the car can easily rise to dangerous levels in as little as 15 minutes. This is because the car acts as a greenhouse. The windows allow energy from the sun into the car, however heat cannot escape. It means the temperature inside the car can rise to as high as 50 degrees Celsius while the outside temperature is just 23 degrees Celsius.
In 2011, there were 33 deaths as a result of vehicular heat stroke. It is estimated that since 1998, 556 children have died in the United States of America from such a cause. It contributed to 15% of all non-traffic vehicle related fatalities in the US from 2006 - 2010.

Our aim is to create an intelligent system that recognises when the conditions inside the car are reaching potentially dangerous levels. We also plan to use a range of sensors to prevent false alarms.
