What is this website all about?

This website presents the results of a group project investigating the problem of electrification in remote communities where connection to the regional electrical grid is not possible, either because of the geographical position of the community, because of the high costs that such an extension would entail or any other reasons. This project was led by a group of 2nd year students of Imperial College London, under the supervision of Dr. Balarko Chaudhuri, Lecturer at Imperial College.

What you can find on the site

On the site, you'll find information on what microgrids are, and why they are a good solution for the electrification of remote communities. A short presentation of renewable energy sources is also made, and it is explained why their development is essential for microgrids to be successfully implemented. A discussion of various past examples where microgrids were implemented in such remote communities is made, where the various solutions are assessed. From this, a case study is realised in a sample village in Bihar, a state of India. A presentation of the HOMER software and how it was configured can also be found, along with the results of the simulations that were made. Finally, you have the option to download the report that summarises this project. All this can be found in the links in the menu to the left.
